Sterling silver, suede - additional image.
Dragonfly (no references, it's probably excessively off but the long body gets you the impression) prototype featured-catch necklace. The suede joins the two wings, and the pin is inserted into the hinge to hold it closed.
This is a prototype, so please excuse the toolmarks and bent bits. I also apologise for the dreadful photos! I'll improve on them when I have access to some daylight at the weekend.
I'm really excessively pleased with this piece. The parts fit together so snugly and accurately, the design functions better than I had hoped, and it looks gorgeous both when worn and when not. (The wings can close completely with the front surface outside, or to around 30 degrees with it inside, so that you can suspend it from the cord as if in flight.)
The suede is quite short, so that it sits just below the base of the throat and fits with a range of clothes. I think I may replace it with ribbon for durability, though.
I'm going to try and make several this weekend, along with some other pieces. My intention is to check the time required for each price, so that I can work out a reasonable price. If you're interested in buying one, please drop me a message or note, and I'll get back to you with a price.
Oh, and if you've left me a message and I haven't replied, I'm really sorry but I've only got 'net access in my lunchbreaks! I'll do my best to go through them all soon
Oh yes, and if anyone has any suggestions for simple embellishments to the pin without sacrificing the simplicity, please pitch in!
There are a lot of themes that run through the stock gallery many people have similar ideas but they pull them off in different ways. In this series of newsletters we will look at similar ideas but different outcomes.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
